In Windows it is necessary to first download the proper driver for the printer. To do so, please download the PostScript HP Universal Print Driver for your operating system and architecture.
Once downloaded and extracted, please run the executable. You will be asked whether or not you would like to “Run this file”. You may safely say Run
You will then be presented with a WinZip Self-Extractor program. You will want to uncheck “When done unzipping open: .\install.exe” and click the Unzip button
When the unzip process is completed, you will be presented with a confirmation prompt indicating that some number of files were unzipped successfully. You may press the OK button.
Now that the driver is on your computer, you may open the Devices and Printers window by clicking Start → Devices and Printers. When the window is open, please select Add a printer.
You will then be asked “What type of printer do you want to install?” You should select Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer.
In the next window, Windows will attempt to automatically find the printer. Please Stop this process and select The printer that I want isn't listed.
Now we may manually “Select a shared printer by name” and enter http://print.meteo.mcgill.ca:631/printers/penguuin replacing
We will then be asked the select the driver for our printer. To do this, please select the Have Disk button
This will open a window asking us to Install From Disk. In this window, please press Browse
We then navigate to C:\HP Universal Print Driver\VERSION\ where VERSION is what you downloaded. Once you navigate to this directory, please select the first file and press Open.
Once we press Open, we will be returned to the Install from Disk window where we can now press OK
Once we press OK, we will be asked exactly which driver we wish to install. Please select HP Universal Printing PS
Windows will now try to connect to the printer. Depending on some random collection of events, this may take up to five minutes
Once Windows connects, we will be notified that we've “successfully added penguin on http://print.meteo.mcgill.ca:631”. That's great! We can press Next
We will then be prompted to set the printer as default. I don't normally do this but it is your choice:
